Instructions

0. If the repo was not cloned with submodules:

$ git submodule update --init --recursive

1. Install make.
2. Install docker
3. Build (export) site to _site directory:

$ make build

4. For local development with live reload:

$ make dev

5. To test the production Docker build at 0.0.0.0:4000:

$ make serve

Color theme

The site follows the operating-system light or dark preference by default. The header control stores an explicit override as caution-theme in browser localStorage and applies it before first paint across navigation and reloads. The preference is browser-local; it is not stored in a cookie or synchronized with an account.

A valid stored light or dark value takes precedence over the operating system. Without a valid stored value, open tabs follow operating-system theme changes and fall back to light when the system preference is unavailable. Changes synchronize across tabs on the same origin.

Validate both themes on desktop and mobile after UI changes. At minimum, run:

$ make build
$ git diff --check

Blog article presentation

Long-form posts can use .diagram for overflow-safe monospace diagrams and a centered .diagram__art block. Keep post-specific card artwork in _includes/blog/ and route it from both the blog listing and homepage blog CTA. Semantic diagram color spans must inherit the surrounding monospace metrics to preserve ASCII alignment.

Generate Static Files

1. Output static files in _site directory:

$ make _site

Cleanup

1. Remove all build artifacts:

$ make fullclean
